To understand the communications challenges set by the media and to train course participants to make effective use of the media in getting key messages across.
This course mixes theory and front-of-camera practice and covers an overview of the Northern Ireland media. It also defines 'news' and what determines whether a story will get coverage, outlines media needs and how to meet them and explains the different types of interview. Participants are taught how to perform during an interview in terms of appearance and what is said. This is followed by practice broadcast interviews which are played back for discussion and learning purposes.
Participants will regard the media as an opportunity rather than a threat and feel confident to use the various media channels to get key messages across.
